You do not need a Courchevel budget to ski France well. These resorts deliver big terrain, real snow and slope-side lodging for a fraction of the marquee-name price.
France's best value hides in plain sight, often one lift from a famous name. Les Menuires and Orelle open the door to the Three Valleys at a fraction of Courchevel's prices; Valmorel, Valmeinier, La Norma and Saint-Francois-Longchamp give you proper Savoie skiing without the resort-town markup; and Les Sybelles is one of the biggest linked areas in the Alps that almost nobody talks about.
Value here does not mean small. Many are purpose-built at altitude, so the snow is reliable and you walk to the lifts, and their apartments and family passes are priced for real budgets. Over in the Pyrenees, Luz-Ardiden and the local hills come cheaper still.
The trick is to trade a prestigious postcode for the same mountain. Base yourself in Les Menuires and you ski the identical Three Valleys pistes as Courchevel guests; pick Orelle and you are on the Val Thorens side by mid-morning. Same snow, smaller bill.
