Gourette is the main ski resort of the Béarn, set in a steep, rocky cirque beneath the Col d'Aubisque that gives it a genuinely alpine feel for the western Pyrenees. Its 40 km of piste pack in a lot of variety for the size, from sheltered beginner slopes at the base to demanding reds and blacks on the surrounding walls. Close to Pau and the spa village of Eaux-Bonnes, it is a popular weekend mountain for the southwest of France, lively when the snow is good.
