Ski-in/ski-out

Folgaria has a couple of true ski-in/ski-out hotels at Fondo Grande and Francolini, but the village core stands a five-minute drive or skibus from the lifts. Read the location carefully before booking.

Get to know the resort

The Alpe Cimbra is the family ski address of southern Trentino, with three baby parks, learner carpets in the village and a wide spread of blue and red pistes off Fondo Grande, Costa, Francolini and Serrada. The Lavarone side and the small Lusern lifts add quiet alternative laps when the main bowls fill up. Heavy snowmaking covers the lower altitudes from the first cold nights, which keeps the season honest at this latitude. The Cimbrian language and the old stone hamlets give the plateau a distinct identity, far from Dolomiti Superski's louder names. Lift tickets, ski school and board are notably cheap by Italian Alps standards, which is why Veronese and Vicentine families fill the hotels at half-term. Folgaria itself is a real working village with a normal high street, supermarkets, a couple of cinemas, and bus links down to Rovereto and Trento.

Good to know

  • The terrain is well balanced: 0 green, 30 blue, 25 red and 8 black runs, which suits a mixed group skiing together at different levels.
  • From 1170 m at the base to 2007 m up top, the resort leans on grooming and snowmaking in lean spells (score 74/100).
  • With 104 km of piste on 24 lifts, it is a mid-size area, easy to get to know in a long weekend.
  • The lifts typically turn for about 17 weeks a season, planning around late January to late February tends to land the most reliable cover.
