Schilpario

Schilpario is an old iron-mining village at 1,124 m in the Val di Scalve, well off the Bergamo crowd circuit. The 20 km of family pistes on the Belvedere-Cimalbosco sector pair with one of Italy's better cross-country networks on the Campelli plateau, all at very Lombard prices.

Ski-in/ski-out

Schilpario is a village-base resort: a short uphill walk or 2 minute shuttle gets you to the Pradella chairlift, and very few hotels are truly ski-in/ski-out.

Get to know the resort

Schilpario sits in a side valley of the Val di Scalve, where the Dezzo torrent has carved a gorge between the Presolana and Pizzo Camino massifs. The village still shows its mining past in the open-air museum and the old galleries you can tour by mini-train. Skiing happens on the Belvedere-Cimalbosco sector above the village, with 20 km of mostly blue and red pistes topping out at 1,635 m, well shaded and north-facing enough to hold snow into March. The bigger draw for Lombard families is the Campelli di Schilpario nordic centre, with 30 km of groomed cross-country loops on a high plateau surrounded by larch. Eating out means polenta taragna, casoncelli alla scalvina and the local Branzi cheese. Hotels are mostly small, family-run, and very fairly priced for the Bergamo-Brescia drive-in market.
