Both villages are essentially built on the slope. They offer some of the densest ski-in/ski-out hotel clusters in Austria.

Ski-in/ski-out is genuine and easy in Stuben: the village is so compact that almost every hotel and pension is within a minute's walk of the Albonabahn base, and the home runs end at the streetside. The only caveat is the village's size, with relatively few beds, so booking ahead is essential in high season.

Obertauern is a purpose-built, slope-side resort strung around a high pass; almost every hotel sits right on the snow-front for true ski-in/ski-out.

Kühtai is a tiny ski-in/ski-out hamlet at 2020 m; its handful of hotels sit right on the snow-front, the highest village resort in Austria.

Almost every Hochfügen hotel is genuinely ski-in/ski-out, with skis stored steps from the gondola and lifts opening directly outside the doors.

Ski-in/ski-out is excellent throughout Königsleiten. Most apartments and hotels are clustered around the chairlift bases and home runs, with snow underfoot from the door for the great majority of the village. Buildings on the lower side of the pass road are the main exception, and an underpass or short walk solves it.

The Skicircus is built around the village axis, so most hotels in Saalbach and Hinterglemm are genuinely ski-in/ski-out.

Galtür is compact and the Birkhahnbahn departs from the edge of the village, so a handful of hotels qualify as genuine ski-in/ski-out and most others are within easy walking distance of the lift, skis on the shoulder.

Ski-in/ski-out works best near the Rittisberg and Pichl-Reiteralm base stations, where pensions and small hotels open onto the home runs. Many guest houses on the plateau itself are genuine ski-in/ski-out for nordic skiers, with the trails passing literally outside the door, but for alpine skiers a short shuttle or drive to the cable car bases is usually involved.

Gerlos is a high Zillertal village strung along the road to the pass; many hotels sit by the lifts on the snow-front for easy ski-in/ski-out.

Ski-in/ski-out is very good around the lower Steinbergbahn station and along the Asitz access lane, where several Gasthof-style hotels and apartments open directly onto the home runs. The wider village stretches a couple of kilometres along the valley, so it is worth checking distance to the cable car when booking, especially with younger children.

Brand is one of the rare Vorarlberg villages where the Dorfbahn cable car leaves from the centre itself, so a handful of central hotels and chalets come close to true ski-in/ski-out via the valley return run.

Berwang is one of the better Zugspitz Arena villages for ski-in ski-out, with the Sonnalmbahn and a couple of village drag lifts rising directly from the centre. Several traditional Bauernhaus and family hotels sit a few metres from the snow, while outlying chalets rely on the free Top Snow Card ski bus.

Ski-in/ski-out is workable but not the village's headline feature. A small cluster of pensions and apartments near the Hochalmbahnen base station ski straight onto the home runs, while accommodation in the historic centre and around the waterfall path needs a short walk or the local ski shuttle.

Sankt Johann's old centre sits a short distance from the Harschbichl base; a handful of hotels and apartments cluster at the lift station for proper ski-in/ski-out, while the rest rely on the free ski-bus that loops every few minutes.
