Krimml is the village you choose when scenery comes first. It sits at the head of the Pinzgau under the wall of the Hohe Tauern, with its world-famous three-tier waterfalls plunging 380 m above the road and the national-park boundary running right behind the houses. The local Hochalmbahnen sector offers 17 km of mostly easy piste (8 km blue, 6 km red, 3 km black), perfect for families learning or for relaxed days under the sun. The trump card is the lift link via Wald-Krimml into the Zillertal Arena, opening 145 km of connected terrain to Königsleiten, Gerlos and Zell am Ziller without leaving the lift system. Beyond the marked pistes, Krimml is a serious ski-touring base: the Hohe Tauern National Park stretches south to the Großvenediger group, with skin-up routes and quiet summits for those equipped for the backcountry. In the village itself, traditional Gasthof inns, a baroque church and the steep walk up to the lower falls (open in winter on selected paths) make for a markedly quieter Austrian week, with much more nature than nightlife.
