Bad Kleinkirchheim

Bad Kleinkirchheim is Carinthia's ski-and-spa flagship at 1,100 m, with 103 km of pistes spread across the Kaiserburg and Maibrunn sectors and two big thermal complexes in the village itself. It is Franz Klammer's home turf, and his namesake red still draws people here decades on.

Ski-in/ski-out

True ski-in/ski-out is concentrated around the Kaiserburg gondola base and the Maibrunn hamlet a few km uphill; most main-village hotels are 200 to 500 m from a lift.

Get to know the resort

Bad Kleinkirchheim, BKK to regulars, is the rare resort that genuinely delivers on the ski-by-day, spa-by-night promise. The 103 km of piste link the Kaiserburg, Maibrunn and Wiegelenock sectors above the village, with most of the terrain rolling intermediate and the famous Franz Klammer abfahrt running steeply down to the valley floor. Conditions are usually best on the north-facing Maibrunn slopes after fresh fall. Back in the village, the Therme Römerbad sits at the upper end of the high street with a brutalist-luxe relaxation block and outdoor pools steaming under the stars, while St Kathrein at the lower end is the more family-friendly thermal park. Eating in BKK runs Carinthian: Käsnudeln, Reindling, Frigga and a great line in mountain-hut Schnitzel. The valley is quieter than Salzburger Land headliners and skis a generation older in age profile, which means a calmer après scene focused on the spa.
