Family ski-in/ski-out resorts and accommodation in Austria

They call it the diamond of the Alps, and the snow record backs it up, with reliable cover from mid-November to May. Obergurgl is the highest parish in Austria, calm where its neighbours are loud, and a paradise for families and confident intermediates.

Damuls sits at 1,430 m high in the Bregenzerwald in Vorarlberg, often advertised as the snowiest village in the world with around 9 m of average annual snowfall. Linked with Mellau for 110 km of mostly open, above-the-tree-line piste, it stays family by day and quietly serious for freeride by morning.

A sunny high-plateau trio above the Inn valley, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is Austria's ultimate family mega-resort, 214 km with kids' worlds everywhere. Even the village transport is a free underground train.

The highest village resort in Austria at 2020 m, Kühtai is small, snow-sure and ski-in/ski-out by design. A quiet, high hideaway 40 minutes from Innsbruck.

Galtür sits at 1,584 m at the head of the Paznaun, ten quiet kilometres above Ischgl. Altitude makes it snow-sure, the Birkhahnbahn delivers you onto the Ballunspitze pistes, and the Silvretta peaks behind frame a village that still chooses calm over commotion.

Hochfügen is a compact ski-in/ski-out hamlet at 1,500 m high above the Zillertal, lift-linked into Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach for 90 km of combined terrain. The altitude makes it one of the snow-sure picks of the valley, and the Sidan and Pfaffenbichl bowls hide some of Tyrol's best lift-served freeride.

Königsleiten is a high-altitude hamlet at 1,600 m on the Gerlos pass, sitting on the Tirol-Salzburg border at the heart of the Zillertal Arena, a 145 km, 51-lift area that links Königsleiten with Gerlos, Zell am Ziller and Wald-Krimml. Altitude and aspect make it one of the more snow-sure mid-sized resorts in the Eastern Alps.

The Skicircus links Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn into the largest connected ski area in Austria. Host of the 2025 World Championships, it is built so you can lap all day without taking the same run twice.

Ramsau am Dachstein sits high on a sunny plateau at 1,100 m below the Dachstein glacier (2,700 m), in the Schladming-Dachstein region. It is best known as one of Austria's great nordic-ski capitals, with around 220 km of cross-country trails, plus 50 km of alpine piste on the local Rittisberg and Pichl-Reiteralm sectors and snow-sure glacier skiing above.

A high, snowy village in the Zillertal, Gerlos anchors the 143 km Zillertal Arena, the valley's biggest linked area. Sunny, family-friendly and reliably white at 1250 m.

Leogang sits at 800 m at the western end of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, one of Austria's biggest interconnected resorts at 270 km of pistes served by 70 lifts. The Steinbergbahn rises straight out of the village, giving direct access to the linked terrain over the Asitz and on towards Saalbach.

Home village of ski legend Hermann Maier, Flachau anchors Snow Space Salzburg and hosts a floodlit World Cup night slalom. A family favourite on the giant Ski amadé pass.
