Most luxurious ski resorts in Europe

The Matterhorn watches over every run, and no cars are allowed to spoil the view. Zermatt skis all year on the Theodul glacier, the only resort in the Alps that genuinely never closes.

Statistically the snowiest corner of the Alps, and the most discreet. Lech and Zürs sit just above St. Anton but trade its rowdy bars for quiet luxury and the elegant White Ring circuit.

Alpine tourism was born here in 1864, and the place has never let you forget it. Two Olympics, the Cresta Run, polo and horse racing on a frozen lake: St. Moritz wraps serious skiing in old-money theatre.

Freeriders make the pilgrimage here for the Xtreme and the merciless Tortin couloir. Verbier sits at the top of the 4 Vallées, Switzerland's largest domain, and the nightlife matches the terrain for sheer intensity.

More Michelin stars than any ski village on earth, and a western doorway into Les 3 Vallées. Courchevel stacks six villages by altitude, from the palace hotels of 1850 down to the family runs of Le Praz.

Once the favourite of the Habsburg court, Madonna di Campiglio still carries that imperial polish. The pearl of the Brenta Dolomites draws crowds each December for the 3Tre, a World Cup slalom run under floodlights.

When the Spanish royal family goes skiing, this is where they come. Baqueira Beret is the largest resort in Spain, with three connected sectors and the Michelin-starred tables of the Aran Valley waiting at the bottom.

A Graubünden village at 1,200 m, sister to Davos under a single lift pass and 300 km of piste, where King Charles takes his winters and the Gotschnabahn leaves from the railway platform.

They call her the queen of the Dolomites, and the UNESCO peaks of the Tofane and Cinque Torri explain why. Cortina co-hosts the 2026 Winter Olympics, but its real currency is the long, sunlit lunch on a mountain terrace.

Corvara sits at the heart of Alta Badia at 1,568 m, with the Sella massif rising straight above the village and the Sellaronda circuit starting at the door. Ladin-speaking, beautifully kept, with Michelin-starred kitchens scattered through the valley. The 130 km of local piste open onto Dolomiti Superski's 1,200 km network.

Few resorts get this much sun. Crans-Montana spreads across a south-facing plateau above the Rhône valley, hosts the Omega European Masters golf in summer, and keeps a relaxed, wellness-minded pace on the snow.
