Ski-in/ski-out

Damuls is genuinely close-to-snow: most hotels in the upper village sit a minute or two from a lift base, and several open directly onto a piste. Anything described as ski-in/ski-out here usually is.

Get to know the resort

The Damuls-Mellau area runs 110 km of piste on 29 lifts between 1,430 m and 2,050 m, with 35 blue, 30 red and 15 black runs, a mix that explains the freeride reputation as much as the family one. Above the tree line, large open faces hold powder for days after a dump, and the local lift map turns into a freeride playground once the patrol opens the ridges. The village itself is small, traditional and discreet, a working Bregenzerwald community of timber farmhouses and a handful of family-run hotels rather than a packaged ski resort. Snowfall genuinely arrives in mid-November most years, and the season can run with cover well into April thanks to north-east exposure. Linkage with Mellau is by lift, not by road, and the combined Bregenzerwald pass adds value if a longer stay calls for a day in the wider Vorarlberg domain. For deep snow without crowds, this is one of the best-kept secrets in Austria.
