Hochfügen

Hochfügen is a compact ski-in/ski-out hamlet at 1,500 m high above the Zillertal, lift-linked into Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach for 90 km of combined terrain. The altitude makes it one of the snow-sure picks of the valley, and the Sidan and Pfaffenbichl bowls hide some of Tyrol's best lift-served freeride.

Ski-in/ski-out

Almost every Hochfügen hotel is genuinely ski-in/ski-out, with skis stored steps from the gondola and lifts opening directly outside the doors.

Get to know the resort

Hochfügen is reached by a narrow toll road climbing 1,000 m out of Fügen on the valley floor, and the journey alone tells you what kind of place you are heading to: a handful of large chalet hotels grouped around the gondola base, no village to speak of, snow on the doorstep from late November to mid-April. The lifts open onto the wide intermediate flanks of the Sidan and Pfaffenbichl, which combine with the Hochzillertal sector above Kaltenbach for 90 km of mostly red piste and a lot of treeline glade skiing. Freeride is the main reason serious skiers come here: the off-piste off the Hochfügen sechser and the Sidan run is among the best lift-served terrain in the Zillertal, with multiple guided programmes operating from the village. Après happens inside the hotels themselves, with proper Tyrolean Stuben and the occasional Almöi tea-dance. It is a quieter, more focused alternative to Mayrhofen down the road.
