Cavalese

Cavalese is the historic capital of the Val di Fiemme, a 1,000 m valley town with frescoed palaces and the steep Alpe Cermis cable-car climbing to 2,228 m straight out of the centre. The Marcialonga cross-country race finishes here every January, and the Dolomiti Superski pass opens the wider Latemar, Pampeago and Obereggen sectors a short drive away.

Ski-in/ski-out

Cavalese has no true ski-in/ski-out, since the Alpe Cermis cable car starts on the edge of town. Hotels within a five-minute walk of the base count as walk-to-lift, which in this valley is as close as it gets.

Get to know the resort

Alpe Cermis is the home hill, modest in size (around 50 km of piste) but with a real personality: the long Olimpia 1 and 2 reds drop nearly 1,200 m of vertical back to town and the gondola opens at 8.30 sharp for a quick lap before breakfast. Cross-country is the cultural backbone of the valley, with the Marcialonga ring on the doorstep and 150 km of groomed loops along the Avisio. A 20-minute drive lifts you into the Ski Center Latemar at Pampeago and Predazzo, or south to Obereggen, all on the same Dolomiti Superski pass. The town itself is dense and walkable, built around the Magnifica Comunitร  palace, with a Renaissance courtyard and a daily market. Hotels run from family-owned three-stars on the main square to a couple of design wellness addresses on the hillside. Food is serious Trentino: smoked ricotta, canederli, Teroldego wine.
