Leysin

Leysin is a Vaudois village at 1,300 m, strung along a sunny balcony with one of the most photographed panoramas in the Alps: the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc straight ahead. International schools, mellow tree-lined skiing and the train from Geneva give it a calm, lived-in feel.

Ski-in/ski-out

Genuine ski-in/ski-out in Leysin depends on the address: the resort spreads along a long balcony, so a handful of hotels above the village sit directly on the slopes while others are a short shuttle or walk from the lifts.

Get to know the resort

The skiing covers 60 km on 18 lifts, climbing from 1,300 m to 2,200 m on the slopes opposite the village, with 20 blue, 12 red and 5 black pistes that read as classic family and intermediate territory. The Tour d'Ai dominates the skyline above the resort, and the rotating Berneuse restaurant at 2,048 m turns a full circle through the Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva view roughly every hour and a half. Down in the village, international boarding schools have shaped a quietly cosmopolitan high street of cafes, sports shops and chalet hotels stretched along the south-facing terrace. The cog railway from Aigle, on the main Geneva line, means you can step off a long-haul flight and be on the balcony in around two hours with no rental car. Snow comes in reliably from December, the tree-lined runs hold their shape in poor visibility, and the Dents du Midi backdrop is genuinely as good as the brochure suggests.
