La Chapelle d'Abondance

La Chapelle d'Abondance is the quiet door into the Portes du Soleil. At 1,010 m beneath the Crêtes des Cornettes, it keeps its Abondance valley stone houses and slow rhythm while plugging straight into 600 km of cross-border piste.

Ski-in/ski-out

True ski-in/ski-out is limited here, since the Crêt-Béni lifts sit at the village edge rather than in the centre. A handful of properties at the lift base let you ski to the door; most others are a short walk or shuttle ride.

Get to know the resort

The village runs along the floor of the Abondance valley, all dark wood balconies, working farms (this is the home of Abondance cheese, after all), and a bell tower that has been there a long time. Its own small ski area on the Crêt-Béni is a friendly playground of greens and blues, ideal for kids learning their first turns or families wanting a half-day close to home. From there you slot into the wider Portes du Soleil network across to Châtel, Avoriaz, Morgins, and the Swiss side, with the same lift pass covering all 600 km. It is the antithesis of the busy Avoriaz balcony: locals say hello, restaurants close on Sunday afternoon, and you can usually park in front of the lift. People come back year after year for that exact reason.
