If Corvara is the centre, San Cassiano is the address you keep to yourself. The lifts climb to Piz Sorega and onto the Sellaronda from the village edge, with the full 130 km of Alta Badia and the 1,200 km of Dolomiti Superski beyond. The pistes are the same wide, beautifully groomed reds and blues, but the village stays quieter, the bars stay calmer, and the dinner tables stay set rather longer. Beyond St. Hubertus, the valley around San Cassiano holds a remarkable density of fine Ladin cooking and serious wine cellars, including the Wine Bar at the Rosa Alpina and several mountain Stuben worth the detour. It is a place built for people who want their skiing serious and their evenings beautifully judged.
