Sälen

Sälen moves more skier-days than anywhere else in Sweden, thanks to four linked resorts and two satellites stitched together across the Dalarna fells. Lindvallen, Tandådalen, Hundfjället and Högfjället share 130 km of piste and 95 lifts, with Stöten and Kläppen filling out the valley. The atmosphere is family-first and refreshingly affordable, three hours from both Stockholm and Oslo.

Get to know the resort

The Sälen system spreads from 500 m to 880 m across rounded fjäll typical of central Dalarna, with 35 green and 50 blue pistes that make it one of Europe's strongest beginner and family domains. Lindvallen and Tandådalen are the two main hubs, joined by a high-altitude link, while Hundfjället leans towards intermediates and Högfjället keeps a quieter, more traditional feel. The cluster is famous for the world's first ski-in Burger King at Lindvallen, but the food culture also runs to fjäll-side fika and reindeer-stew cabins. The valley below is the finish line of the Mora to Sälen Vasaloppet, the country's iconic 90 km cross-country marathon, so Nordic skiing is woven into the local identity. With a 130 km network, 95 lifts and a reliable November to April season, Sälen handles big school holidays without crowding.
