Get to know the resort
Oppdal works as a real Norwegian fjell village rather than a purpose-built resort: timber houses, working farms and a station on the main rail line that puts the lifts within a short bus ride of the train. The four sectors each have their own character, from family-graded greens above Hovden to the steeper red and black pitches at Vangslia. Above the marked pistes, the Trollheimen massif opens out for ski-touring and freeride, and local guides run day trips into the back bowls when conditions allow. The pace is calm, the prices are honest by Norwegian standards, and the food culture leans on lamb, trout and the local Oppdalskyr cheese. Children get their own beginner zones, and the dryer continental snow means the lower runs hold up well into April.
