Norwegian Mountains, Norway 🇳🇴
Oppdal is the biggest alpine resort in central Norway, an old farming village sitting at 545 m on the Trondheim-Oslo railway. Four lift-served sectors (Hovden, Vangslia, Stølen, Adalen) pool together 47 km of piste up to 1,284 m. The inland-continental climate keeps the snow dry and dependable from late November through to May.
Generally yes. From 545 m at the base to 1284 m up top, the profile holds snow well across a normal winter (score 82/100).
This is more of a valley base than a slopeside village, so expect a lift, train or shuttle to the snow each morning. Staying central, near the main lift, saves the most time.
It is a compact area, 47 km of piste on 16 lifts, best for a short break or a focused trip rather than a full week. The terrain is balanced (10 green, 16 blue, 18 red, 3 black), which suits a mixed-level group skiing together.
Oppdal stands out for a family-friendly setup and serious off-piste and freeride terrain.
The season usually runs Nov 23 to May 1 (about 23 weeks). For the most dependable cover, the deep-winter window of January to February is the safe bet. Conditions soften as spring arrives, so earlier in the window is the safer call.
