Get to know the resort
There are villages you visit for the skiing and villages you visit for the scenery, and Misurina is firmly in the second camp. The little 5 km piste on the Loita slopes is fine for absolute beginners and an easy morning ski, but the real season here belongs to ski touring and snowshoeing in the Sorapiss and Tre Cime amphitheatre. The lake freezes solid, the pinnacles of Lavaredo glow at dawn, and the road up from Auronzo is closed to most traffic in winter, which keeps the hamlet quiet. A handful of historic hotels, one church and a few restaurants serving Cadore cooking are all there is, and that is the point. For serious downhill skiing, Cortina d'Ampezzo is forty minutes away.
