Limone Piemonte

Limone Piemonte has been on skis longer than almost anywhere in Italy: the first lift went up in 1907. At 1,010 m in the Maritime Alps, a short drive from Cuneo and the sea, the medieval main square still sits right at the foot of the lifts.

Ski-in/ski-out

Because the main lift station is right in the medieval centre, several hotels on or just off the main square are effectively ski-in/ski-out, you walk fifty steps in your boots and you are on the chair. A few properties further along the valley road require a short shuttle.

Get to know the resort

Limone is the closest serious mountain to Nice and Liguria, which gives it a distinctly Mediterranean accent: skiers come up from the coast for the day, lunch goes long on a south-facing terrace, and the snow tends to be sun-softened by mid-afternoon. The Riserva Bianca area spreads 80 km of piste across two south and east-facing flanks above the village, mostly intermediate red and a small handful of black, no green at all, so absolute beginners are better off on the dedicated learner area. The old centre, around the Romanesque San Pietro church and a string of via Roma cafรฉs, is genuinely lived-in, not a ski-resort stage set. Train access from Turin is straightforward, parking is fine, and lunch is always Piedmontese: brasato, agnolotti, a glass of Dolcetto.
