Crévoux

Crévoux is barely a village, a cluster of stone houses at 1,600 m above Embrun where the southern Hautes-Alpes start to feel Mediterranean. Seven lifts and 17 km of piste keep the day-skiing modest, but the Parpaillon massif lays out one of the best ski-touring backyards south of Briançon. The sun does most of the work here.

Ski-in/ski-out

Crévoux is too small for true ski-in/ski-out: the lifts depart from one edge of the hamlet, and most accommodation is a one- to five-minute walk away. Easy in practice, just don't expect to step from your room onto the snow.

Get to know the resort

The village faces south across the Embrunais valley, with the Lac de Serre-Ponçon glittering far below and the Italian border one ridge away. Five green pistes, eight blues, six reds and two blacks distribute themselves between 1,600 m and 2,400 m, perfect for a quiet family week without the lift queues of Les Orres next door. The Parpaillon massif and its disused military tunnel are the local cult destination for ski-touring and snowshoe outings, with classic itineraries running from Crévoux to the col itself. Hotels are few and family-run, dining is hearty Hautes-Alpes (think tourtons and tomme blanche), and prices stay well below the Tarentaise average. Embrun, fifteen minutes down the road, has the train station, the supermarkets and the lakeside cafés that come back to life in March. Booking, Expedia and Hotels.com cover the village, and reservations are usually easy to secure outside French school holidays.
