Ski-in/ski-out

Get to know the resort

The Le Sauze-Super-Sauze ski area runs 65 km of piste on 18 lifts, mostly above the Chapeau de Gendarme up to 2,440 m. The pitch is intermediate and family-paced: long blues that wind through scattered larches, a handful of reds at the top of the area, and a small park for freestylers. Snow at this latitude is more variable than in the northern Alps, but the slopes face mostly north despite the southern position, and the area runs an extensive snowmaking network. Barcelonnette in the valley is the unusual draw: a small town with Mexican-inspired villas built by nineteenth-century emigrants returning rich from Puebla, complete with palm trees and pastel facades. Lift queues are short, the lift pass is well under the Tarentaise average and the food is southern French rather than Savoyard.
