Strong value for Avoriaz, with a high guest rating that punches above its nightly price.

Avoriaz and Morzine share the giant Portes du Soleil, but one is a high, car-free, ski-in resort and the other a charming valley town. Here is how to choose.

Choose Avoriaz if you want ski-in ski-out convenience, a car-free base at 1800m with surer snow, and a freestyle, park and snowboard scene. Choose Morzine if you want a real Alpine town with character, lively bars and restaurants, easier road access, and plenty to do for non-skiers and families.
Both resorts open onto the same Portes du Soleil network, around 650km of linked pistes spanning the French and Swiss border, so on the snow you can ski the same terrain from either base. The difference is the base itself: Avoriaz sits high at 1800m, is fully purpose-built and car-free, and you click into your skis at the door, which makes it reliable for snow and ideal for snowboarders and park riders. Morzine is much lower at 1000m, a traditional valley town where snow at village level is less certain and you take a lift, bus or short drive to reach the slopes. In return Morzine gives you genuine Savoyard charm, a wide choice of restaurants and nightlife in town, and easy access by road, which suits families and non-skiers who want a real place to wander. Avoriaz is the safer bet for snow-sure, hassle-free skiing and a freestyle vibe, while Morzine wins on character, atmosphere and convenience of arrival. Pick Avoriaz for altitude and ski-in ease, Morzine for the living, breathing mountain town.
