How we picked
Altitude buys two things: snow that lasts and air that thins. This ranking takes the highest lift-served point at each resort, worldwide. Breckenridge tops it at 3963 m, just ahead of Zermatt (3899 m) under the Matterhorn and Cervinia (3883 m) on the Italian side of the same glacier. The Chilean Andes bring the highest bases on the list, with Valle Nevado starting at 3025 m. High summits mean reliable late-season cover and spring skiing, but also real exposure to wind and cold up top, so layer up and watch the forecast. Figures are the resort summit altitudes in our database.
