How we picked
Argentina spreads its skiing across the Andes from north to south. Cerro Catedral, above Bariloche and Lago Nahuel Huapi, is the largest ski area in South America, with lift-served terrain through lenga forest and a lively base. Las Leñas, high in Mendoza, is the continent's reference for steep, snow-sure off-piste off the Marte chair, built around a genuine slopeside base village. Chapelco (above San Martin de los Andes) and Cerro Bayo (above Villa La Angostura) are the scenic, family-friendly resorts of the Patagonian lake district. Far to the south, Cerro Castor near Ushuaia is the southernmost ski resort on earth, with one of the longest seasons going. Southern Hemisphere season runs June to October.
