Get to know the resort
Las Leñas rewards strong skiers and freeriders above all: the upper mountain is a vast, exposed playground of couloirs, bowls and open faces, much of it reached by traversing out from the Marte chair. The base is a purpose-built resort village set on its own at the head of the valley, with the nearest town, Malargüe, roughly 70 km away, which gives the place a focused, faraway feel. Lower down there are gentler runs for cruising, but the mountain's character is unmistakably advanced and remote.
Good to know
- The terrain is well balanced: 6 green, 18 blue, 14 red and 2 black runs, which suits a mixed group skiing together at different levels.
- The base sits at 2240 m and the top reaches 3430 m, a profile that holds snow well across a normal winter (score 86/100).
- It is a compact resort, 29 km of piste on 14 lifts, best as a day trip or a relaxed short break rather than a week-long base.
- The lifts typically turn for about 14 weeks a season, planning around late January to late February tends to land the most reliable cover.
