Wallberg-Tegernsee

Wallberg is one of southern Bavaria's most photogenic mountains, rising to 1,722 m straight out of the Tegernsee, with the cable car leaving from Rottach-Egern on the lakeshore. The piste map is tiny (about 8 km on three lifts), but the cult freeride descent and the lake-view panorama keep it firmly on Munich's weekend list.

Ski-in/ski-out

There is no real ski village under the Wallberg cable car, so genuine ski-in/ski-out lodging is essentially non-existent; lake-side hotels in Rottach-Egern and Bad Wiessee sit a short drive or bus ride from the base station.

Get to know the resort

On a snow day, the Wallberg freeride descent from the summit cable car station back to Rottach-Egern is one of the more talked-about lift-served runs in the eastern Alps, with around 1,000 vertical metres of mostly unmarked terrain. The official piste map is genuinely small, so this is a one-day stop on a wider trip rather than a week-long base, with the bigger Spitzingsee and Sudelfeld sectors next door covering longer days. The real value is in the wider Tegernsee: a lake of old Bavarian villas, painted Gasthof inns, white-clothed lakeside restaurants, and steamer boats running all winter. With Munich an hour away by car and direct trains to Tegernsee, Wallberg is the obvious choice when you want a one-day cult run plus a long lake-side weekend.
