La Toussuire

La Toussuire is a purpose-built 1960s village perched at 1,750 m in the Maurienne, a gateway into the Les Sybelles domain. The architecture is unapologetic concrete from the lift-it-and-pour era, but the snow at altitude holds and the ski-in/ski-out is as honest as it gets. Families come back year after year for the price-to-piste ratio.

Ski-in/ski-out

True ski-in/ski-out is the rule in La Toussuire: most apartment buildings sit on or within a snowball throw of the home piste. The few hotels set back from the front-snow line are a flat two or three minute walk in boots.

Get to know the resort

La Toussuire sits at the centre of Les Sybelles, a 310 km, 67-lift domain that links six villages over the ridge: Le Corbier, La Toussuire's sister-resort Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, Saint-Jean-d'Arves, Les Bottieres and Saint-Colomban-des-Villards. From the village plateau the cabinet of intermediate blues and reds opens straight onto the home slope, and a single chair sends you over the back to the Sybelles crossroads. Beginners get long, gentle greens right above the apartment blocks; advanced skiers traverse to the top of L'Ouillon (2,431 m) for the wider runs and a fair shot at fresh tracks after a fall. Lift queues stay manageable, the lift pass costs less than in the Tarentaise giants, and the season holds reliably from mid-December through mid-April. It is not a chic resort and it does not pretend to be.
