Ehrwald

Ehrwald is the quiet Tirolean side of the Zugspitze, a village at 1,000 m that looks straight up at Germany's highest peak from the postcard angle. The Ehrwalder Almbahn opens a sunny family bowl under the Wettersteinwand, while the Zugspitzbahn climbs to 2,962 m for glacier skiing right on the border.

Ski-in/ski-out

Ehrwald itself sits in the valley below the lift stations, so genuine ski-in/ski-out is rare; a few addresses at Ehrwald-Obermoos and right at the Ehrwalder Almbahn base come closest, with the local ski-bus covering the rest.

Get to know the resort

On paper, the local Ehrwalder Alm gives around 30 km of piste, with wide blues up top, a couple of black drops back to the valley, and a small snowpark for the kids' first switch attempts. The real card is the Top Snow Card forfait, which adds the glacier and the German Garmisch-Partenkirchen side, so you can ski Bavaria in the morning and Austria in the afternoon on one ticket. Snow is reliably good thanks to the altitude, the north-facing aspect and the glacier insurance up top, and crowds stay well below Garmisch and Seefeld levels. The village itself keeps a working Tirolean feel, with Gasthof addresses, ski touring straight from the door, and the Zugspitze massif framing every dinner.
