The Åreskutan rises from the lake at 380 m to 1,420 m, giving the longest vertical in Sweden and 91 km of pistes spread across four linked sectors: Åre, Björnen, Tegefjäll and Duved. Björnen handles the family slopes, Tegefjäll and Duved offer quieter cruising, while the lift system above central Åre delivers the steeper red and black terrain that hosted recent World Cup downhills. The sleeper train from Stockholm pulls in below the village every morning, and Trondheim is a short hop along the Bergen railway. Off the snow, the village mixes Sami crafts, lakeside saunas and a serious restaurant scene, with après-ski that is widely seen as the most polished in the Nordics. Snow cover is reliable from late November to May, and the open upper bowls catch reliable wind-driven fills.
