Get to know the resort
From a base at 91 m by the lake, the gondola lifts to the Hanguren upper station and 40 km of piste spread between Hangurstoppen at 945 m and the lower flanks back to town. The character is short, sharp reds and well-cut blues with the fjord panorama in front of you all the way down, and a season that starts in early December and runs to late April thanks to coastal moisture meeting cold inland air. Voss is the staging ground of the Voss Extreme Sports Week each summer, and the BASE-jumping, skydiving and paragliding scene is genuine year-round, with operators based in town. The Bergen-Oslo train stops at Voss station three minutes from the gondola, ninety minutes from Bergen and five and a half hours from Oslo, with regular services either way. Between runs the town itself offers a fjord-side restaurant scene that is far more developed than a 40 km ski field would normally support. Booking, Expedia and Hotels.com list hotels around the station square and a smaller number of apartments closer to the lift.
