Samnaun

Tucked into a quiet corner of GraubΓΌnden on the Austrian border, Samnaun is the duty-free Swiss enclave that opens directly into the Silvretta Arena alongside Ischgl. The double-decker cable car climbs to Alp Trida and 239 km of linked pistes spread across two countries on a single forfait. Petrol and goods stay tax-free, a quirk of the canton's exclave status.

Ski-in/ski-out

True ski-in/ski-out is limited to a few hotels right by the Pendelbahn at Ravaisch; most accommodation in the four hamlets relies on the regular ski bus that loops the valley.

Get to know the resort

Samnaun sits at 1,840 m on the Swiss side of the border, four hamlets stitched together by a single valley road that ends at the cable car station. The Pendelbahn lifts you to Alp Trida in minutes, where pistes fan out across the Silvretta Arena and roll over the ridge to Ischgl and the Idalp. Snow stays reliable from late November to early May thanks to altitude, aspect, and the famous Paznaun cold pocket. Beyond the 239 km on the marked map there is plenty of off-piste in the high bowls above Viderjoch, and a calmer après-ski culture than the noisy Austrian side. Duty-free shopping in the village turns a snowfall day into a sensible stop at the supermarket. Evenings stay quieter on the Swiss side, with a handful of grottos and family-run stuben open late.
