Peisey-Vallandry

Larch forests, a long beam of afternoon sun across the Tarentaise, and the Vanoise Express drifting overhead on its way across the valley to La Plagne. Peisey-Vallandry is the Paradiski entry that still looks like the Alps, with old Peisey down in the trees and Plan-Peisey and Vallandry strung along the slopes above. It is for skiers who want the 425 km of Paradiski but would rather sleep among larches than under floodlights.

Ski-in/ski-out

Hotels in Plan-Peisey and Vallandry, both around 1,550 to 1,600 m, are genuinely ski-in/ski-out: you step out of the door onto blue and red runs and ride the Vanoise Express across to La Plagne from the same plateau. The lower village of Peisey-Nancroix at 1,300 m is not slope-side and relies on a free shuttle to the lift base, so check which of the three sectors your booking is in.

Get to know the resort

Peisey-Vallandry is really three things in one ski pass: the old slate-roofed village of Peisey-Nancroix sitting in larch forest down at 1,300 m, and the two purpose-built but human-scale clusters of Plan-Peisey (1,600 m) and Vallandry (1,550 m) up on the lift line. From here the Les Arcs side of Paradiski opens straight out, and the Vanoise Express, a double-decker cable car spanning the Ponturin gorge in four minutes, drops you onto Bellecôte and the whole La Plagne side. The skiing is famously scenic, long pistes cut through larch and pine, and the forest aspect means it skis well in flat light when higher resorts go blank. It suits families, intermediate skiers who like a varied 425 km playground without ski-resort theatre, and anyone who has decided to swap the high-altitude hubs for trees, sun and slightly slower nights. Plan-Peisey and Vallandry are slope-side; Peisey-Nancroix proper is a free shuttle ride down.
