Get to know the resort
Two villages, really: Morillon-village down at 700 m, a still-functioning farming community with old chalets and a Tuesday market, and Morillon-1100, the more recent plateau higher up where most of the ski-in/ski-out residences are clustered around the Sairon gondola. The base elevation is low for a French resort, so the early-season skiing is from 1,100 m and above, not from the village itself. The Grand Massif lift pass opens 265 km of piste across the five linked sectors, and the Cascades run from Flaine ends with a long blue glide back into Morillon, one of the longest piste descents in France. Beginners get gentle blues off the Marvel chair on the plateau, and freeride options open above the Tête des Saix once snow is on. The valley itself, the Giffre, is calmer and less developed than the Arve side, which keeps prices on accommodation and après-ski lower than Les Carroz or Samoëns.
