Götschen-Bischofswiesen

Götschen-Bischofswiesen is the quiet family hill of the Berchtesgaden corner, 7 km of well-snowmade piste on the Götschen-Eck above the village of Bischofswiesen. The Watzmann fills the southern skyline and the bigger Jenner sits across the valley for variety. A weekday morning here is one of the calmest lift-served outings in the Bavarian Alps.

Ski-in/ski-out

Bischofswiesen is a road village a short drive below the slopes, so true ski-in/ski-out is rare; a couple of guesthouses sit close to the lift base car park.

Get to know the resort

Götschen is exactly what a small alpine ski hill should be: a chairlift, a few drag-lifts, snowmaking on every metre, and a layout designed around children and learners. The runs climb from 800 m at the base to the Götschen-Eck at 1,310 m, with one black descent that holds the cover well and a string of friendly blues and reds for everyone else. The view south to the Watzmann massif is unusually grand for a hill of this size, and the after-school programme of locals adds a real Berchtesgaden colour. Weekends bring families up from Salzburg, half an hour away, but weekdays stay empty enough to ski the same run six times before lunch. The bigger Jenner cable car and the Hochschwarzeck across the valley fill in extra terrain when needed, and the lake of Königssee, the Watzmann hut walks and the Berchtesgaden salt mine give snow-poor days a plan B that few small resorts can match.
