Get to know the resort
The Bauges Regional Park is one of those green pockets of Savoie that gets less press than the Tarentaise or the Maurienne, and that suits the locals fine. Eight greens, ten blues, five reds and two blacks unroll mostly between 1,000 m and 1,845 m, with the higher Margériaz sector taking the day's snow and the lower Aillons offering shorter runs back to the village. A solid snowpark sits on the Margériaz side, and the cross-country network around the park reaches over forty kilometres of trail. Eating local means Tome des Bauges DOP cheese, charcuterie from the valleys around Le Chatelard, and tartiflette with a view of the limestone cliffs of the Margériaz. The drive from Lyon takes about ninety minutes outside rush hour, Chambéry is half an hour, Annecy roughly the same. Booking, Expedia and Hotels.com cover the village hotels and the half-dozen chalets up at Margériaz 1400.
