Scuol

Scuol unfolds along the Inn river in the Lower Engadine, a Romansh-speaking spa town where sgraffito-painted facades face the mountains above. Above it, the Motta Naluns gondola opens 80 km of pistes between 1,250 and 2,783 m. The Bogn Engiadina baths and the Swiss National Park at the door give the place a tone you simply will not find at St. Moritz.

Ski-in/ski-out

The village sits at 1,250 m below the ski area, so true ski-in/ski-out is rare; most stays use the gondola from Scuol-Tarasp or the small slope-side hotels above Ftan.

Get to know the resort

The Lower Engadine has always been the quieter, older-feeling half of the Engadine, and Scuol carries that mood without trying. The Motta Naluns sector runs cold and north-facing above 2,500 m, with long red runs back to the gondola and a handful of black descents to Ftan and Sent. Snow holds well from mid-December to mid-April, helped by a high base and the dry continental climate of the upper Inn valley. The Bogn Engiadina is a proper Roman-Irish baths complex with mineral pools fed by local springs, the sort of place locals visit on a Tuesday evening. Add the cross-border lift connection over to Samnaun for big-mileage days, the painted villages of Guarda and Ardez next door, and the Swiss National Park's marked winter trails through the larch forest. The result is a resort that rewards the kind of skier who also wants a walk, a soak and an hour of quiet.
