Savognin

Savognin sits in the sunny Surses valley of central GraubΓΌnden, a south-facing village at 1,200 m that has built its reputation on families rather than on after-dark headlines. The Piz Martegnas sector gives 80 km of piste, the Tigignas-Somtgant area carries the smallest skiers, and the long Cresta Lai descent brings everyone back to the village square. Quiet, sunny and noticeably cheaper than Davos or St. Moritz over the passes.

Ski-in/ski-out

A few hotels sit directly on the home run into Savognin, but most of the village is a short walk or shuttle from the lift base at Tigignas.

Get to know the resort

The Surses valley keeps its own dialect of Romansh and a slower rhythm than the Engadine, and Savognin's slopes match the tone. Lifts climb from the village to Tigignas at 1,650 m and on to Somtgant and the Piz Martegnas summit at 2,713 m, giving long, wide, mostly south-facing runs that catch the sun all morning. The blue network above Tigignas is a textbook progression zone, with patient instructors and a snow-park that does not bully beginners. Strong skiers find their day on the Martegnas reds and the off-piste bowls towards Cresta Lai, while cross-country tracks loop along the valley floor. Snowmaking covers the home run almost end-to-end, important for a south-facing aspect that softens by mid-afternoon. The village itself is small and unflashy, a working Surses settlement with a couple of stuben and a Romansh-language school. Lift passes and ski schools quote a third less than over the Julier pass, which is the whole point of the place.
