Ski-in/ski-out

Bessans is a small village, so most hotels are within a short walk of the lifts on the Mont Cenis-Iseran ridge rather than literally door-to-piste. A few chalets at the western edge of the village let you click in just outside.

Get to know the resort

Bessans sits at the top of the Haute Maurienne, hemmed in by the Vanoise National Park and a horizon of three-thousanders. The village is built of dark stone and low roofs, with a chapel on every corner, the kind of place biathletes and serious cross-country skiers have quietly used as a training base for decades. The alpine area is small (30 km of pistes, 9 lifts) but high and reliable, with the snow holding from mid-December into April. There is no nightlife circus, no architecture from the 1970s, and the lift pass costs a fraction of what you would pay an hour down the valley. Families come for the safe, snow-sure beginner pistes; nordic fans come for the trails; everyone leaves a little surprised by how empty it still feels.
