Norwegian Mountains, Norway 🇳🇴
Røldal is the snowiest ski area in Norway, a small coastal-mountain pocket that catches Atlantic storms head-on and often records more than 10 m of annual snowfall. 17 km of marked piste run on the Røldalsfjellet sector, but the real draw is the freeride terrain off Reinanuten and Reinaknuten. It sits less than three hours from Bergen.
Yes. The base sits at 380 m and the top reaches 1100 m, which puts snow reliability among the very best on our index (score 90/100).
Ski-in/ski-out depends on the address here: some hotels are on the snow, others need a short walk or shuttle. Pick a slopeside address if skiing from the door matters to you.
It is a compact area, 17 km of piste on 6 lifts, best for a short break or a focused trip rather than a full week. The terrain is balanced (2 green, 4 blue, 8 red, 3 black), which suits a mixed-level group skiing together.
Røldal stands out for serious off-piste and freeride terrain.
The season usually runs Nov 30 to May 1 (about 22 weeks). For the most dependable cover, the deep-winter window of January to February is the safe bet. Conditions soften as spring arrives, so earlier in the window is the safer call.
