Australian Alps, Australia 🇦🇺
Perisher sprawls across four linked villages in Kosciuszko National Park, the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere by lift count. Forty-seven lifts thread runs through ghostly snow gum forests, six hours from Sydney, two from Canberra. Modest peaks, big footprint, unmistakably Australian.
Usually, with help. From 1605 m to 2034 m the resort leans on grooming and snowmaking in lean spells, so check the live report before booking early or late dates (score 78/100).
Ski-in/ski-out depends on the address here: some hotels are on the snow, others need a short walk or shuttle. Pick a slopeside address if skiing from the door matters to you.
With 70 km of piste on 47 lifts, it is a mid-size area, easy to get to know over a long weekend. The piste mix leans gentle (22 green, 60 blue, 30 red, 14 black), so beginners and early intermediates are well served.
Perisher stands out for a vast, multi-sector domain and a family-friendly setup.
In the Southern Hemisphere the season runs roughly Jun 8 to Sep 30 (the local winter), with July and August the most reliable.
