Ski-in/ski-out

Wengen is a car-free village on a sunny shelf above Lauterbrunnen, reached by cog railway; most hotels are a short, level walk from the train and lifts.

Get to know the resort

Reached only by the cog railway up from Lauterbrunnen, Wengen has kept its car-free, Belle Époque calm while plugging into the 160 km Jungfrau ski region shared with Grindelwald. The skiing is mostly gentle and intermediate across to Kleine Scheidegg and Männlichen, all of it under the colossal north face of the Eiger. Every January the village hosts the Lauberhorn, the longest and one of the most storied downhills in ski racing.

Good to know

  • The terrain is well balanced: 0 green, 40 blue, 50 red and 12 black runs, which suits a mixed group skiing together at different levels.
  • The base sits at 1274 m and the top reaches 2320 m, a profile that holds snow well across a normal winter (score 80/100).
  • At 160 km of piste on 44 lifts, it is a substantial mountain that earns a multi-day stay.
  • The lifts typically turn for about 18 weeks a season, planning around late January to late February tends to land the most reliable cover.
