Super-Besse is the main ski resort of the Auvergne volcanoes, set on the flanks of the Puy de Sancy in the Massif Central. It is a purpose-built family station with wide, gentle slopes and striking volcanic scenery, though the snow here is more modest and changeable than in the high Alps.
