Algerian Mountains, Algeria 🇩🇿
Tucked into the limestone cathedrals of Djurdjura National Park, Tikjda is Algeria's window onto a snowy Atlas most travellers never imagine. A short drive from Algiers, it pairs Kabyle-Berber hospitality with a single lift, a stark summit, and a season that comes and goes with the cedars.
It depends on conditions. At 1475 m to 2308 m this is a lower-altitude resort, so lean on the live snow report and stay flexible on dates (score 32/100).
This is more of a valley base than a slopeside village, so expect a lift, train or shuttle to the snow each morning. Staying central, near the main lift, saves the most time.
It is a compact area, 3 km of piste on 1 lifts, best for a short break or a focused trip rather than a full week. The piste mix leans gentle (1 green, 1 blue, 1 red, 0 black), so beginners and early intermediates are well served.
The season usually runs Jan 15 to Feb 25 (about 6 weeks). For the most dependable cover, the deep-winter window of January to February is the safe bet. Conditions soften as spring arrives, so earlier in the window is the safer call.
