Swiss Alps, Switzerland 🇨🇭
Riederalp is the car-free balcony of the Aletsch Arena, reached only by cable car from the Valais valley below and perched at 1,925 m above the longest glacier in the Alps. Sister to Bettmeralp on the same lift system, it gives 104 km of piste over the UNESCO Aletsch panorama. The Riederfurka and Moosfluh sectors are usually the quietest of the three terrace villages.
Generally yes. From 1925 m at the base to 2870 m up top, the profile holds snow well across a normal winter (score 88/100).
Riederalp is car-free. You park at the resort entrance and reach the village without a car; most lodging then opens straight onto the snow, so the car can stay put all week.
With 104 km of piste on 35 lifts, it is a mid-size area, easy to get to know over a long weekend. The terrain is balanced (0 green, 30 blue, 25 red, 12 black), which suits a mixed-level group skiing together.
Riederalp stands out for glacier skiing up high.
The season usually runs Nov 30 to Apr 21 (about 20 weeks). For the most dependable cover, the deep-winter window of January to February is the safe bet. The altitude also holds spring snow, so late-season skiing stays good well into spring.
