The Remarkables

The Remarkables sit on the far side of Lake Wakatipu, a wall of jagged peaks visible from every Queenstown waterfront cafe. The lift system climbs into a high, cold bowl ringed by Single Cone, with one of the best freestyle parks in the Southern Hemisphere and family terrain steps from the base.

Get to know the resort

The Remarkables, named for the sawtooth ridge that rises straight from Lake Wakatipu, sit 40 minutes from Queenstown via the south-shore road and a switchback climb. The mountain centres on a wide, north-facing bowl above 1610 m, with the Sugar Bowl basin opening up shaded, snow-holding terrain that delivers some of the most reliable powder skiing of the NZSki group. The freestyle parks at Burton Stash and the Park Lane progression are rated among the best in the Southern Hemisphere, with a coaching culture that draws Olympic and World Cup riders in winter. Beginners and families have their own protected sector at the base with the Sundance carpets and gentle Shadow Basin runs, so a single trip can comfortably cover first turns, intermediate cruising and serious freestyle. Most visitors base in Queenstown, with its food, lake-edge bars and easy summer crossover. The NZSki triple-mountain pass also covers Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt, which makes the Queenstown winter holiday genuinely multi-mountain without changing hotels.
