Get to know the resort
Gérardmer suits families, beginners, and weekenders driving up from Nancy, Strasbourg, Luxembourg, or just over the German border. The skiing centres on the small La Mauselaine area, with gentle forest runs and a good network of cross-country trails, all backed by the easygoing feel of a lake town with shops, restaurants, and lakeside walks. Bear in mind that the altitude is low and snow cover can be patchy, so the season leans heavily on snowmaking.
Good to know
- The terrain is well balanced: 8 green, 3 blue, 8 red and 2 black runs, which suits a mixed group skiing together at different levels.
- At 770 m to 1140 m this is a lower-altitude resort, so check conditions before you book and lean on the live snow report (score 50/100).
- It is a compact resort, 40 km of piste on 19 lifts, best as a day trip or a relaxed short break rather than a week-long base.
- The lifts typically turn for about 11 weeks a season, planning around late January to late February tends to land the most reliable cover.
